For a Dutch offshore installation company the dynamic behaviour of XXL monopile installation has been analysed.

The wind energy industry is growing fast. With the increasing size of wind turbines and installation in deeper water, larger monopiles support structures are required. This pushes the boundaries of monopile installation methods.

To optimize the installation method DynaSim was asked to develop a numerical model combining the dynamics of the vessel, monopile, moorings, soil and hydraulic system. After validation and verifications with measured data, assessments could be made of, dynamic behaviour in varying seastates, operational limits and installation safety.
