Together with technology developer Clearwater Technologies BV, DynaSim has performed a technical and commercial feasibility study to the extraction of energy from the motion of ships moving in the North sea waves.
A new technology was developed for this purpose consisting of two oscillators and a newly designed power take-off system. This technology can be integrated into any vessel or platform moving in the waves and converts wave energy efficiently into useful electric energy for direct usage, storage or transport to land.
Detailed numerical models using realistic sailing profiles and known North sea wave conditions showed a handsome reduction in fuel use in case this technology would be integrated in an average sized North sea coaster. The return on investment was calculated to be 14%.
